Muller advert - "Forget Fad Diets"?!

Printer-friendly versionSend to friend

I nearly choked on my full fat yogurt when I saw Muller’s latest ad.  This is in their “Forget Fad Diets” series, and it has a cheery sound track and features lots of svelt young women chomping on Mullerlight and stomping on fad diet books.

Whilst I’m all for stomping on fad diet books, am I the only one who finds this a little ironic? Eating fat free yoghurt is the height of diet faddishness.

Here are the ingredients of Mullerlight with chocolate sprinkes:

Yogurt, (well, that’s a relief!)
 Water,
 Black Cherries (6%),
 Fructose,
 Modified Maize Starch,
 Stabilisers: Pectins,
 Guar Gum;
 Cocoa Butter,
 Cocoa Powder,
 Fat Reduced Cocoa Powder,
 Butter,
 Sugar,
 Flavourings,
 Gelatine,
 Acidity Regulators: Citric Acid,
 Sodium Citrates,
 Calcium Citrates;
 Sweeteners: Aspartame,
 Acesulfame K,
 Dark Chocolate Sprinkles (0.5%).

It’s not exactly wholesome and natural is it? Eating fat free junk full of sweetners and chemicals hardly represents taking a stand against fad diets.

If you really want to give up fad diets, buy some fruit and buy some full fat yoghurt and pour one on the other. Bingo. This still has all its goodness - it will fill you up and make you feel good. You won’t be ravenously hungry half an hour later.  It isn’t stuffed full of fructose and artificial sweeteners (associated with metabolic syndrome) and it’s cheaper and involves less plastic.
